OMDs are disorders involving oral and/or facial muscles that interferes with normal growth, development, or function of structures, OMDs can be found in children, adolescents, and adults.
Myofunctional therapy uses a combination of individualized physical therapy exercises to improve the bite, breathing, and facial posture of those with orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs). The therapy targets the face, neck, and mouth's soft tissues to reach optimal tongue position and oral rest posture. OMDs can affect people of all ages, and treatment is customized .
By providing individualized therapy which includes exercises and neuromuscular re-education of the oral and facial muscles. This promotes positive growth patterns, correct chewing and swallowing. It trains the tongue and lips to rest in the correct position. It will help with speaking more clearly, to eating more efficiently, and sleeping more soundly.
